Deafheaven @ The Metro [PHOTOS]
You know what's exciting? Seeing a band live right after they put out an album that you really, really like. An album that you connect with right away and can't stop spinning. It's happened to me in my life more than a few times, and it's one of the best experiences you can have with live music. You know what's even more exciting? When it's a record that you realize is instantly one of the year's best. When it's a band that transcends their genre and creates some of the most interesting music, out of anyone, anywhere, period. In 2018, Deafheaven is the epitome of a genre-bending act that has put out a truly special record. If your reading this and you haven't listened to it yet, do your self a favor and give it a listen. If your familiar with the band, then you know their live aesthetic is equally as interesting as the albums they put out. On one hand their a black metal band of 5 dudes who are very good at what they do. But theres sort of a hypnotic element to their live sets. I heard someone describe their stage presence as almost "pleasant mind control". I don't know what this means, but at the same time I do. Weirdley enough, it makes perfect sense. Deafheaven is one of the most interesting bands on wax and on stage. We were lucky enough to tag along to their show earlier this week at the Metro in Chicago and snap a few photos. Check out the photos below and in the gallery, and pickup tickets to catch them on tour throughout the rest of the year here.
