Pitchfork Music Festival 2018 [PHOTOS]
With Pitchfork Music Festival 2018 officially in the books, that means summer '18 has officially peaked. This years festival was an incredible array of talented musicians, with plenty of Chicago representation. We kicked off day 1 with a set from the oh-so talented Julie Byrne. It was relaxing, and a great way to kick off the weekend. Saba provided an excellent jolt to the afternoon, while some continued to chill out to Julien Baker. Syd was an unexpected highlight of the day, as the California singer put on a hell of a show. Coincidentally, her band "The Internet" had released their new album, Hive Mind, earlier in the day. Syd finished her set inviting the band onstage with her as she ended her time with a few of the band's tracks. Courtney Barnett was up next, and proved to be a definite favorite of the Union Park audience. Maybe it's because some were not all that familiar, or maybe it's because they have yet to experience a Barnett show live, but the crowd seemed incredulous with the amount of energy that the band played with. She was a definite highlight. Last but obviously not least, tame Impala put on a ridiculously fun performance. In 2018, Tame Shows are somewhat of an anomaly. There's only a couple dates in the US this year, and that was evident, as I met several fans who traveled from out of town for the sole reason of catching Kevin Parker and the boys in 2018. The set was full of familiar songs, but for some reason, it just felt fresh. It really felt like a treat, and that seemed to be the mood throughout the night. It started raining pretty heavily not too soon after the set started, whichI thought would have been a bummer, but it actually set the mood kind of nicely. It lasted only a couple minutes, and as Parker alluded to, it was a pretty lucky and special evening, considering threats of cancellation due to weather. Everything went down smoothly, and it was definitely one for the books. We were lucky enough to be on hand to snap some photos, which you can find below and in the gallery. Check em out!
