Pitchfork Music Festival Spotlight: Paul Cherry
The first artist scheduled to play Pitchfork on Saturday should be a familiar face, if you pay attention to local music. He's been called a local "pop-rock whiz" by Chicago Reader, and we think that makes a lot of sense. His music is fun, kind of funky, and definitely groovy. It's definitely a standout from the fuzzy garage rock tones that seem so prevalent in today's local scene. Cherry music is certainly a breath of fresh air, and that's why we love him. His latest record, Flavour, feels reminiscent of times not too long ago. And I mean that in the best way possible. He's been a regular in Chicago's DIY scene, which is apparently all he had hoped for when he began making music. However, many have taken notice. Since his record dropped in March, he's received a lot of well-deserved hype. If you're looking for something a little funky this weekend, you'll want to arrive early on Saturday. And if you find yourself in search of a little more fun, he's playing an after show at Schuba's on Sunday (tickets here).
